How the platform works

How to use QuestionableMind

Everything on the site is built to be obvious, but here is the honest user manual.

• Ask: press Ask a question, write a clear title, add context, pick a category, post.
• Answer: open any question and use the composer at the bottom. Specific, first-hand answers help the most.
• Go anonymous: flip the Hide my identity switch on any question or answer. You will appear under a random pseudonym, like quiet_fox_4821, and even moderators never see your name attached to it.
• Reply: under every answer there is a Reply button for short follow-ups. Replies can be anonymous too.
• Tag: use + Add tag on a question or answer to make it easier to find.
• Save: the bookmark icon on any question or answer keeps it in your Dashboard → Saved list.
• Share and print: every thread has a copy-link Share button and a Print view that is clean enough to keep.
• Confess: Confessions is the always-anonymous room. The switch is forced on there, by design.

The house rules

• Be kind, especially when someone is being vulnerable.
• Answer from experience, not from a search result.
• No spam, no harassment, no illegal content, no doxxing. Ever.
• Report anything that breaks the rules. Every report reaches a human moderator.
• Crisis posts are met with resources and care, not judgment.

QuestionableMind started with a simple frustration: when you search for honest answers to everyday questions, about careers, coding, exams, money, family, life, you mostly find content written to rank on Google, not to actually help anyone.

So we built a place where the answers come from people who have actually lived the question. A freelancer who has lost a client to a power outage. A CSS candidate who studied from a 9-to-5. A developer who switched stacks and regrets, or doesn't regret, the decision. Experience is the one thing no search engine can fake.

What makes us different

• People first, never bots. Answers come from community members with first-hand experience. We do not generate fake questions or AI-written conversations to chase traffic.
• Accepted answers, not loudest answers. The person who asked the question marks the reply that actually helped, so good advice rises to the top.
• Honest about imperfection. A question with zero answers stays visible and honest. We would rather show an open question than a manufactured one.
• Safe by design. Every post passes community rules and moderation, and every moderation action is logged and appealable.

What you can ask

Anything a thoughtful friend could answer from experience: choosing a tech stack, preparing for competitive exams while employed, handling a career gap in interviews, budgeting on a tight income, staying healthy in a hostel, starting over at 30. What we do not allow is abuse, spam, harassment, or anything illegal. Our disclaimer and community rules cover the details.

This policy explains what QuestionableMind collects, why we collect it, how long we keep it, and the controls you have. We wrote it to be read, not to be skipped.

1. What we collect

• Account data: email address, password (stored only as a salted hash), username and the profile details you choose to add.
• Content you post: questions, answers, replies, votes and reactions.
• Technical data: IP address, browser type and device signals, used for security, rate limiting and abuse prevention.
• Usage analytics: aggregate events such as page views and searches, used to understand what is useful. Analytics are never sold.

2. Anonymity on this platform

When you post with Hide my identity switched on, the public sees only a random pseudonym. Your real name is not attached to the post anywhere, and it is not shown in the admin panel either. Moderators can act on abusive content without ever needing to expose who wrote it.

3. What we never do

• We never sell your personal data. That is a business-model commitment, not a marketing line.
• We do not expose your email address to other users.
• We do not publish moderation scores or internal risk ratings about you.
• We do not build advertising profiles from your private information.

4. Cookies and local storage

We use a small number of cookies and local storage entries strictly to keep you signed in securely, to remember your dark or light theme preference, and to store your saved posts. No third-party advertising trackers run on this site.

5. Retention and deletion

• Account data is kept while your account is active.
• Security logs are retained for up to 12 months, then purged.
• When you delete your account, your profile and personal data are removed. Answers you posted may remain in anonymized form so existing discussions don't break.
• Moderation and audit records are kept for legal safety, with access restricted to authorized admins.

6. Your controls

You can view, edit and export your contributions from your dashboard, change notification settings at any time, and request full account deletion. Deletion requests are processed within 30 days.

7. Security

All traffic runs over HTTPS. Passwords are hashed, sessions are revocable, admin access is two-factor authenticated and logged, and backups are encrypted. If a breach ever affects you, we will tell you directly and promptly.

Community content, not professional advice

Everything on QuestionableMind is user-generated content: real people sharing real experiences. It is information and perspective, not professional advice. Nothing on this site is a substitute for a qualified doctor, lawyer, accountant, financial adviser or mental-health professional.

Health, money and law

• Health: members share what worked for them. Bodies differ. Confirm anything medical with a doctor before acting on it.
• Money: budgeting and saving experiences are personal, not investment advice. Never treat a stranger's comment as a reason to move your savings.
• Law: legal-adjacent answers reflect personal experience with systems, not legal counsel. For real disputes, consult a lawyer.

Confessions and anonymity

Confessions are posted anonymously and moderated with care. They are personal stories shared so others feel less alone. They are not verified, and they should never be used to identify, judge or pursue any individual.

Answers may mention external websites. We do not control them and we do not endorse everything they contain. Follow links, especially from strangers, with your own judgment.

Your use of this site

By using QuestionableMind you accept that the community, its members and its moderators are not liable for decisions you make based on content you read here. If content breaks our rules, report it and we will act on it.

Filing a takedown notice

If you believe content on this site infringes your copyright, send a written notice to [email protected] with all of the following:

1. Identification of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed.
2. The exact URL or location of the material on QuestionableMind you want removed.
3. Your full name, mailing address, telephone number and email address.
4. A statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
5. A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on their behalf.
6. Your physical or electronic signature.

What happens next

• We review complete notices promptly, typically within 3 business days.
• Material that appears infringing is removed or disabled while we review.
• The member who posted it is notified and may file a counter-notice if they believe the removal was a mistake.
• Repeat infringers lose posting privileges permanently.

Counter-notice

If your content was removed and you believe that was a mistake or misidentification, reply to the removal email with a counter-notice: the removed material and its former location, a statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief it was removed in error, your contact details, and your signature. Valid counter-notices may restore the material unless the original complainant files a court action.
